With the release of our new line, we are sending our Sugar and Bruno Brand Ambassadors another shipment of S&B Swag to style in their own way! Our S&B girl’s are each different and we love to send them pieces of our line that we know they will rock.

Anna’s Outfits ( @annathepuppylover )

Anna’s favorite color is pink, so we had to incorporate our new Pink Marble color in her Spring \ Summer looks! Our new pink paired perfectly with our moss green.

Maggie’s Outfits ( @dancemaggie1 )

Maggie’s favorite color is Blue, so we mixed our new Blue Marble color with our new La Lace in her Spring \ Summer wardrobe!

Sanjana’s Outfits ( @sanjana_nallapaneni )

We had so much fun dressing Sanjana up while she was here for the Spring \ Summer photo shoot! Sanjana looks great in everything, picking this Coral and Emerald color scheme for her was a breeze.

Style Me, Sugar – Define Your Style (CONTEST)

Here at Sugar and Bruno, we love that our clothes are so versatile and trendy! Our apparel fits into so many different style categories, which helps all the girls out there looking to define their own style. Wether you are a Prep,  Hipster, a Chic Trendsetter, or an Athlete, S&B has something for you.

What if you don’t fit into any of these categories? You don’t have to! We want you to create, mix and match and define YOU! So many of our designs can go from one style to the next, why settle with just one look?

We believe the right outfit can inspire you, give you confidence, and truly expresses who you are!

(Contest rules below)

We absolutely love this CHIC look, using our Twerk Raglan, and Black Curtsey Skirt! All you need is a adorable pair of black flats, a chunky statement necklace, and a classic white button down collared shirt to layer under the raglan. We suggest tucking the shirts into the skirt for this Très Chic look.

For all our ATHLETIC girls out there, we are loving this casual and comfy look! We paired our On Fleek Half Top with our Company Jacket in Charcoal for a fun sporty look! Any athletic girl knows the value of a great headband with no metal, our Heather Headband in White Marble is perfect! Now, to finish off the look try some high waisted blue jeans in a medium wash, and as always pair with some classic high top chucks.

The PREPPY look has been evolving lately, and we love the idea of mixing and matching texture with this style. Start with our Swiss Miss Top in White, with a soft sweater like feel its perfect for a prep inspired look when worn with our chiffon Curtsey Skirt in Magenta. A prep style cannot go wrong with a timeless blazer to layer with any outfit, and the right pair of boat shoes. Finally, accessorize with a bright floral bag and a unique monogram necklace!

Finally, the newest style trend is the HIPSTER look. We love what you can do with this look, it is laid back and unique just like S&B. We have paired our Chalet Leggings in Moss with our Be Younique Racerback, and to top it off wear our Slouchy Beanie in Moss to match. We layered this look with a jean button down to wear over the tank or tied around your waist. Finish off this look with a great pair of thick rimmed glasses and a pair of duck boots that are great for Fall!

Introducing Our Brand New S&B Ambassador Program

Drum Roll Please…….

Everyone here at the S&B family is thrilled to welcome our first Brand Ambassadors!

This year, at our Dance Camp we awarded three girls the opportunity to become part of our team. We looked for girls that inspire us, have enormous amounts of heart and passion, take pride in what they do, as well as fit into our brands style.

What is being a Brand Ambassador for Sugar and Bruno mean?

Clothes, lots and lots of Clothes! Our ambassadors will be werking their S&B outfits on social media, inspiring other young dancers on how they can style themselves. And, we want you to follow them!

Sugar and Bruno was inspired by these young ladies and cannot wait for you to be inspired too! Watch them go from the studio to school and everything in between wearing some amazing Sugar and Bruno apparel!

Now, MEET the girls!

We have asked three girls to start the program. We hope they all will love to be apart of sharing their looks with all of us!

Meet Anna, our youngest ambassador. She is amazing! She looked fierce while dancing at our camp. We know she will do the same while rocking our S&B apparel! We nailed it when we picked Anna for an ambassador, and her Mom, Shelly shared with us how excited Anna is!

I also want to thank you for picking Anna to be a Sugar and Bruno Brand Ambassador.  That little one has such a big heart and such an incredible spirit… I watched her get on the bus this morning and unzip her rain jacket to show the bus driver her Sugar and Bruno dance camp shirt and I’m pretty sure she was telling the bus driver that she is now a model!  Haha!  She told me this morning that an ambassador was a model.” – Shelly (Anna’s Mom)

Meet Maggie! Maggie is a great dancer, who is fun to watch! She works hard and puts her heart into dancing. We cannot wait to see her shine in her S&B apparel! We love how much fun Maggie and her friends had dressing up for the camp Sock Hop, and we know she will have fun with S&B apparel too!

Meet Sanjana! Sanjana is an amazing dancer, with incredible drive! We noticed her right away at camp and knew she would be a great ambassador for S&B. We hope you can’t wait to see Sanjana werking our apparel as an ambassaor!

If you want to be apart of this program send us an email!

make sure to include your social media info!

S&B Dance Camp Day 3

That’s a wrap! S&B Dance Camp 2015 has officially come to a close. We had so much fun on our last day, which was still full of so much excitement! Today consisted of more dancing, S&B swag shopping, and our big closing showcase. Check out the details below!

Today, S&B encouraged the parents to join in on the dancing! Double Up Dance Group taught a parent cardio blast class for all the brave moms and dads out there!

Double uppp

In addition to dancing, shopping was involved too! S&B set up shop, where we sold new apparel, old apparel, camp gear, and all sorts of accessories!

Swag shop

To conclude the wonderful weekend, we put on a final closing showcase! Faculty got the chance to perform solos, selected dancers from each age group performed, and our VIP studio winners Tippy Toes were awarded the chance to perform a number, as well! Also, during the showcase we handed out a variety of scholarships to upcoming dance conventions and competitions. Our dancers were so excited as they received awards from places like DanceMakers, Hollywood Vibe, and Pulse just to name a few!

S&B Dance Camp Day 2

And just like that day 2 is complete! It was filled with even more excitement, as classes were in full swing and our 50’s themed Sock Hop party took place. Here are a couple pictures to show you the fun!

Here we have faculty member Kameron Bink answering questions at a Q&A session. He talked about the journey of his dance career and his love for the art!

This is faculty member Kayla Kalbfleisch! Here she is teaching our junior dancers in a jazz class. One thing that makes Sugar & Bruno Dance Camp unique is that the class sizes are a bit smaller. That way dancers get more one on one attention with our teachers!

sock hop 2       sock hop 1

Lastly, here is a picture collage of some of the fun that took place at our 50’s Sock Hop! We had a pink carpet and a 56 Chevy to pose with, balloon arches, and LOTS of dancing! We even had a hula hoop contest, an Elvis impersonation contest, and a best costume contest. The competition was tough! All winners were picked by our celebrity faculty members who loved being a part of the fun, as well!

Only one day left…We don’t want it to end!

S&B Vlog – Feauturing Valerie Rockey

The inside scoop on Valerie Rockey!

Valerie is an incredibly talented dancer who you might remember as runner up on this past season of So You Think You Can Dance! Her passion for dance began at the age of 3. She loves tapping and feeling the rhythm, although she has mastered all different styles of dance, as well. She moved out to Los Angeles, CA in 2013 to pursue her dance dreams and it sure paid off! As an Indianapolis native, Valerie loves coming back into town to visit her old studio and to teach at S&B Dance Camp of course!

Earlier this week, Valerie stopped by Sugar & Bruno so we could ask her about So You Think You Can Dance, S&B Dance Camp, her love for tap dancing, and so much more. Check it out!

Under the Spotlight- Tippy Toes!

For today’s blog we are featuring Tippy Toes School of Dance! They are a studio located in Indianapolis, IN who share great love and support for Sugar and Bruno. They were last year’s S&B Dance Camp VIP studio winners and can’t wait to attend camp again this year. We asked them about their favorite S&B Dance Camp memories, life at their own studio, and Valerie Rockey, a Tippy Toes alum, SYTYCD first runner up, and faculty celebrity teacher at this year’s dance camp. Here’s what they had to say!

What draws you to send your students to S&B Dance Camp every year?

This year the draw is certainly Valerie Rockey!  We are so excited to support our hometown girl and SYTYCD first runner up.

What do you think your students enjoy most about Dance Camp?

They love learning combo’s from renowned choreographers from across the country.  They also have so much fun at the party event Saturday night.

In what ways is Dance Camp different from other events or involvements Tippy Toes has experienced?

The class size is smaller. This makes S&B a stand out!

Do you think Dance Camp gives your dancers a valuable experience?

Absolutely!  They grow tremendously.

Last year you were named the VIP studio winners at S&B Dance Camp. What was your favorite part?

The private meet and greet with the faculty.

What opportunities are there for students to grow and flourish at Tippy Toes? As dancers and young girls/boys.

Many of our dancers grow up at Tippy Toes, starting with us when they are just toddlers and dancing several days a week with us through high school graduation.  They grow life skills that will benefit them for many years to come.  The girls learn to work hard at something they love – dance.  They learn to work well with others and become good team players.  They become confident young women.  And they have so much fun developing these life skills through the art of dance.  🙂

What makes you most proud about your studio?

Watching little girls grow up into amazing, confident young women sharing a deep love for the art of dance.

What skills or lessons do you hope your students leave your studio with?

A love and appreciation for the art of dance.  Hard work ethic.  Ability to work well with others.  Confidence.

What do you find most important as a dance teacher to the students of your school?

Every little girl who signs up for dance class has that little spark of love for dance. Some may believe they can dance, others are a little unsure. But one things for sure – they all start out wanting to dance.  I feel it’s our job as teachers to make that spark grow.  And keep it “glowing ” for as long as there is a way to dance 🙂

As you know, Valerie Rockey will be at Dance Camp again this year as one of our celebrity faculty members. What do you have to say about her progress and her foundation at Tippy Toes?

We are extremely proud of Valerie!  Even with all her success she remains sweet, kind and humble. She is a friend to all young aspiring dancers.  Tippy Toes strives to keep hard work and the love of dance in balance so little girls can grow up happy and healthy – and always dancing!

Are your dancers looking forward to her teaching again this year?

Of course! Valerie brings so much fun and excitement to the classroom. They can’t wait!!!

At S&B, we feel it’s important for dancers to keep dancing, so we greatly enjoy putting on our Dance Camp each year. To wrap up, do you feel that inspiring your students to get involved in opportunities such as Dance Camp is beneficial?

Most definitely.  We are limited to what we can give our students, especially here in the Midwest. Attending an event like S&B Dance Camp , with all the amazing faculty from all over the country , is an AWESOME opportunity.  And it’s right here! In our own backyard !!!! What could be better ?!

Thank you so much to Tippy Toes for sharing their thoughts!

Happy dancing everybody!

S&B Celebrating Earth Day

Happy Earth Day from Sugar and Bruno!

We think it’s really important to keep our part in saving the environment and we do a lot of reducing, reusing, and recycling!

The designs on your S&B clothing items use a water based ink that is better for the environment and we use certified phthalate-free plastisol inks when required on other fabrics.

We also support all the cute animals of the world and which we did by adopting two whale sharks: Sugar and Bruno. Right now they’re swimming along the African coast! Not only that, we recycle in our office too and take our paper to the closest local paper recycling bin.

You may be thinking “I’m just one person, I can’t make a difference.” Sugar and Bruno is here to tell you, yes you can! We put together a list of things that you can do now to help the environment. If you do this over a long period of time, you can really make a difference!

S&B’s list of how you can change the world:

1  Recycle whatever you can!
2  Ditch the plastic silverware
3  Eat all your food! That way you’re less likely to have leftovers you throw away.
4  There are a lot of ways to save energy when going to school or work! Try walking, biking, carpooling, or using public transportation.
5  Turn off the lights when you leave the room
6  Unplug things that don’t need to be plugged in
7  Think before you print
8  Print on both sides
9  Reuse your coffee cup
10  Try to take shorter showers
11  Buy in bulk. Bigger containers will use less plastic than 3 smaller containers!
12  Take your own bag to the grocery
13  Plant a garden
14  Send emails instead of writing letters
15   Buy products made from recycled materials
16   Use cloth napkins/dishtowels

In The Media What Moves You

Meet Vako Gvelesiani – Dancing Without Limits

We first met Vako at the 2014 Dance Teacher Summit in New York City where he was one of the dancers selected to model Sugar and Bruno apparel the annual Fashion Show. Outfitted in our Harem pants and new “Athlete + Artist” design by Stacey Tookey, he wowed the crowd with his Hip Hop and improv skills. Not missing a beat of the music or choreography, the audience had no idea that Vako is deaf.

Vako Gvelesiani, 14, who lives in Brooklyn with his family, began losing his hearing at the age of 2 did not let that stop him in his dream of becoming a dancer like his idols Michael Jackson or Adam G. “Moose” Stevani. With his hearing aids to help with his moderate to severe hearing loss, he also relies on the vibrations of the bass to stay in time to the music. He says that he has problems sometimes when the choreographer just says the steps instead of showing them but he doesn’t slow him down.

When it was announced that the Brooklyn Nets basketball team was putting together a youth dance team to perform at half time at the games, Vako and the dancers from his studio excitedly tried out. Out of 500 dancers, he was one of the 15 dancers selected for the Brooklyn Net Kids both for 2014 and 2015.

After we saw a feature on The Today Show that he wore our “Athlete + Artist” shirt to his latest audition for the Net Kids, we reconnected with him on social media. We are so inspired by Vako’s story that we wanted to introduce him to you!

“Never give up on what you want to achieve even if you have disabilities.” Vako said.

Here is a portion of our interview with the Nets Youth Dancer…

What inspired you to start dancing and how long have you been dancing for?

I have been dancing since I was two years old. I started dancing because I wanted to follow my dad’s step because he was also a dancer.

Who are some of your favorite dancers?

My favorite dancers are Michael Jackson and Adam G. Stevani aka Moose.

How do you get ready to perform?

Before I step on the stage or court, I slick my hair back and take a deep breath.

What’s the hardest part about practicing with a hearing loss?

The hardest part is when the teachers are saying the steps instead of doing them and sometimes I don’t hear what they say.

What are some challenges you face when performing with a hearing loss?

The hardest part is when my hearing aids starts to fall out of my ears.

What’s the best part of performing?

The best part of performing is showing people what I can do.

What do you like about S&B?

I loveeee the clothing and especially the drop crotch pants.

(Sugar & Bruno Harem Pants)

Why did you pick to wear our Athlete + Artist Tee for your audition?

I chose the shirt because it was my favorite shirt and it describes me.

What advice would you give anyone who has a hearing impairment and wants to dance?

I would say to never give up on what you want to achieve even if you have disabilities.
